The form of the bridge was inspired by the “Eye Museum “located in the site’s context. Defined by the 60 meters high bow string arches and eye shaped structure.
The Bridge changes the perception of it being only a crossing path, but rather creating an experience for its users. It splatted into different passages. This barrier free passages can be used for walking, jogging, cycling, wheel chairs and small strollers.
It reflects the balance between the human scale and the scale of the city, establishing monumental presence that creates a new open surface to see Amsterdam through structured eye along the IJ River facing the Main train station. Moreover, the changing views along different nodes of the bridge allows the observer on the sidewalks to perceive the bridge with different and enjoyable experiences. As the bridge starting and ending points opens up to the water flowing below creating swimmable areas surrounded by well-designed public space.
