URBAN PLANNING
As a rebellious swirl across the water, this multi-arm Octopus is envisioned as a Woman’s Body.
Maximum Accessibility comes with four spread-out limbs, potentially reduced to two.
The ‘Coulissen Landscape Arm’ guides the IJ Plein quarter, while the river crossing connects to the existing harbour.
A Comfortable Urban Square on ‘Kop van Java Eiland’ unfolds, resulting in a secluded yet open new neighbourhood adjacent to Hotel Jakarta.
TRAFFIC ENGINEERING
Primal is a comfortable ride (5%); climbing safely as a pleasant tour.
Halfway the span, cyclists choose the appropriate arm.
A maximum free shipping space remains with the height of 24m.
ARCHITECTURE
The corridor maisonette blocks are oriented towards open water and have attractive façades towards the inner-square.
The slender deck and open corners create minimal optimal mass in this fan-design bridge.
Blocks and bridge have identical white pigmented concrete pilotes, facilitating public lighting.
CIVIL ENGINEERING
Cost reduction comes with standard elements: single as beam, mirrored as support.
The cable-stayed bridge made of steel, the approaches of maintenance-free concrete.
Construction wise, the latter elements entail continuous girders on struttle bars.
Pre-stressed concrete allows an ideal girder cross-section, accounting for 1/24 of the span.
