–FINALIST of Re-Nature Rome Competition
As a proposal for re-naturing Rome, we offer a common space for people, plants and street animals. Developing a growing structure made from steel-truss over the Cestio bridge, allows the animals to play and nest, the plants to climb and grow, and the people to experience the whole as being inside of a tissue.
With a restaurant and an animal shelter as main functions, the bridge operates with two staircases leading to the different stations of each, the Gastronomical and the Animal Path. People can start their way at the checkout counter and climb up the structure by hopping from the food stations to the viewing platforms to have their meal. Or they can check in at the information desk and jump from the cat shelter to the dog shelter, also stopping in the platforms to enjoy the view. In this way, people can interact directly with the shelter animals, becoming part of their care, and even adopting them, if desired!
Our goal is not only to give place for a manipulated nature, as an animal shelter would be, but to bring the local flora and fauna in contact with this object and let them also be part of it.
