–FINALIST of Re-Nature Rome Competition
The Tiber is an urban artery supporting the development of Rome. At the end of the 19th century, in order to protect the city from flooding, embankment walls were built along the river. However, the citizens seem to have forgotten its existence. The project aims to encourage people and animals to descend to the Tiber by designing public spaces, thereby regenerating the Tiber. The three floors combine humanistic greening, water collection and bird habitat. In the greening, the modular arched structure is used to respect the historical architecture of Rome and serve as the main entrance to the Tiber. The opening at the top allows sunlight and rain to penetrate the plants. In the layer of water collection, the roof can gather rainwater and transport it to the pool. The water will be filtered through the underlying soil and collected in the reservoir for use. The last layer will become a bird’s habitat surrounded by trees and ponds. This kind of architecture provides a co-living habitat for citizens, trees and birds, regenerating the forgotten Tiber.
