-EDITORIAL PICK of War Cities: Utopian and Dystopian Visions Competition
Imagine your hell.
Is it something like our modern world or is it a fear beyond your wildest imagination?
In the roof of every dystopia is the expression of the fears that drives the societies – political dispute and rebellion, stifling of freedom, elimination of human connectedness. Dystopia is arguably more political than fictional – the government is the face of tyranny; it rules with an iron fist, monitors the people and embeds fear and dread in their lives. The current 2022 Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is very much similar to the dystopia described.
The design is inspired by the story of the Ukrainian woman confronting Russian soldier and handling him a bunch of sunflower seeds. Ukrainian wreath known as vinók is used as an architectural response to commemorate the story of the Ukraine-Russian war. Its monumental aspects swell beyond the poetic realm of architecture to create cultural and educational functions embedded within the visionary entity while engendering the controversy of war, triggering people’s minds to rethink and realise the importance of peace and national unity.
