2020 made an irrefutable mark on the history of humankind. The year has brought about a paradigm shift in our understanding of the world and sense of self. Globally, we experienced COVID-19 and felt the effects of causes from abroad such black life matter, Australian bush fire and Middle East conflicts to name a few.
Despite the numerous disasters and conflicts, we believe in the optimism of humankind and our propensity to continually regenerate and evolve. With each situation, it all but takes one person’s effort to set off a ripple effect of consequences.
The 2020 monument is not about defining a past, rather is a vessel to highlight the power of “smallness”. Offering a moment for contemplation in a harried time.
The monument is imagined as a field of movable panels that reacts to the individual. The digital panels rotate and emanate a series of colours in reaction to their movements as they meander through. A beautiful instance appears when two or more people are within proximity.
To all of humanity, do not underestimate your impact and the power of creating a beautiful situation when united, choose to form beauty instead of ugliness.
