– FINALIST of 2020 Monument Competition

What is a monument? An uninhabitable and sculptural work that extols certain social, cultural, economic or political values. Monuments represent the encapsulation of moments, they symbolize inviolability, the extraordinary, the reverent and the finished. A monument for the people – yet the people change. We are not static, we are not extraordinary and we definitely prefer irreverence. We, the people, prefer to live and experiment.

Because of this we present the anti-monument, a project that incites the colonization, by and for ALL the people, of these uninhabitable works of our culture. Some monuments, due to their scale, are already habitable. Still they are protected, kept apart from us, representing abstract and past ideas that have little to do with the reality of the present… Let us tear down the fences and reimagine, reinvent and re-embrace what our culture once deemed beauty! The new monuments will grow together with us, changing when we change and thus fostering the architecture of the past, present and future.
