– FINALIST of 2020 Monument Competition
Monuments have to satisfy the eternal demand of the people for translation of their collective force into symbols – J.L. Sert, F. Leger, and S. Giedion
The monument is the essence of a period. It is a symbolic object that represents social and community life.
In our age of digital, an immense amount of information is stored but no one seems to care about it. Unknowingly, the true identity of our time lies in there. We could not define and summarise our world into one specific thing but instead an accumulation of multiple layers of data that have been collected in a continuous manner. Surprisingly this also never seems to stop. Rather than a monument representing a specific event that one will forget its true meaning after time passes, “WWW” is a reflection of the present.
This evolving instrument changes its form according to events recorded on the internet and functions as a mirror of human activities.
“WWW” appears to be a product of the digital soul where one could argue that humans are the ones who shape it.
