– FINALIST of 2020 Monument Competition
Take a seat at this big table! We propose this monument as a place to meet, to interact and to enjoy. It is a manifestation of the everyday.
The table, in its many forms and functions, is a well-known figure in every culture where it is used for dinners, discussions, exchange and sharing. The table is a place which accumulates different settings and hosts different perspectives. It is at which society and cultures are shaped. It is an object of utility and an agent for transformation. But in the first instance a table is a blank space, yet to be transformed into a collective place. So, take a seat!
The monument is a 4m wide table, cut out from a white marble square. Stools of varying sizes and trees for shadow surround the table. This monument could be situated anywhere but we prefer it in the centre of a town or city, there where the synergy is high. The materialisation is heavy because it should be used for any kinds of activity, whether to eat, to discuss or to dance on.
Altogether the table is a tabula rasa, a blank sheet, to be coloured by everyone everywhere.
